#lagrangefleurieloves les chateaux de Saone-et-Loire, and next up we have a particularly grand one, Chateau de Cormatin.

The beautiful, historic Chateau de Cormatin is located in the commune of Cormatin, just a 30km drive from La Grange Fleurie.

At the chateau, they offer guided tours (in French) with helpful guidebooks available in various languages on request. In addition to the tours, this stunning chateau has some wonderful features:

  • a large moat
  • beautiful gardens
  • a carefully pruned maze
  • a lovely vegetable garden to explore

Once inside, you follow the guide and your guidebook through the beautiful interiors, which include original wall tapestries, paintings, furniture, painted wooden ceilings, and richly decorated rooms. It’s no wonder, then, that Chateau de Cormatin is classified as a historic monument. Step back in time and enjoy the wonders of the spectacular chateaux de Saone-et-Loire.

Day trip idea

For a great day trip, consider starting in Cluny and preparing a picnic for lunch. From there, head to La Vie-Cyclette (bicycle hire) and follow the “Voie Verte” north for 15km to reach Chateau de Cormatin. The route is fairly flat with only two road crossings, making it very family friendly. There are also two restaurants in Cormatin if you prefer a sit-down lunch stop.

However for those feeling more energetic, you could continue from Cormatin all the way to Saint Gengoux-le-National. At just 9km away, it offers a wider variety of restaurants to choose from. Wandering the quaint streets also provides some great social media content opportunities.

After refuelling for the return trip, the voie verte makes for a simple, flat ride back to Cluny.
